Doherty to Lafayette

This morning, the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Monsignor Timothy L. Doherty, priest of the Diocese of Rockford, as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana. Monsignor Doherty is currently the pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Dundee, Illinois.
Bishop-elect Doherty was born in Rockford, Illinois on September 29, 1950. The Bishop-elect has attended St. Mary’s Seminary in Crystal Lake and Saint Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. After graduating from the Pontifical North American College and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Doherty was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Rockford on June 26, 1976. Within the Diocese of Rockford, he has served as Parochial Vicar (Cathedral of St. Peter), Parochial Administrator (St. James), Pastor (St. Mary and St. Catherine of Siena), and as “Ethicist for Health Care.” In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed then Fr. Doherty as Chaplain to His Holiness.
