Just thought I would practice some Spanish while I wrote to everyone. It is coming along, but I am still very far away from being fluent. One good thing, I think, is that the Spanish teacher here told me that I would preach in Spanish because I have good pronunciation. Hopefully I can make good on that prediction.
Next week is Thanksgiving! That means turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, potato salad, famous Pringle buns, corn, cranberry sauce, etc. at Grandma Pringle’s house! That also means that I will be home for a short time. I get in on Wednesday afternoon but have to be back at the seminary Sunday evening at 9 p.m. I am looking forward to seeing everyone.
In preparation for the Advent and Christmas seasons, I decided to read a book entitled “Dawn of the Messiah: The Coming of Christ in Scripture” by Edward Sri. Throughout the book, the author tries to get us to think deeper about the coming of Christ into the world. He tells us that, “for many today the basic outline of [the Christmas story] has become so familiar that the profound – indeed, shocking – nature of the Christmas mystery might be overlooked.” If you are looking for a deeper understanding of Christ’s birth – the series of events that led up to and the events that followed – I highly recommend this literary work.
I would like to, again, thank all of you for your continued support and prayers. I would especially like to thank the St. Charles CCW, the Ladies Guild from Blessed Sacrament, the Corpus Christi Women, the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of the Lakes Council 5150 and my parents and family!!!!
Bye for now….
Hello all!! After a hectic night last night with the election, we are switching gears here at the seminary and getting prepared for Vocations Awareness Weekend. There are more than 20 guys coming from the Diocese of Orlando for the weekend. We are all very excited for the enthusiasm these guys are bringing to the community. To prepare for VAW, we are all working extra hard this week on our house chores. Some of us are cleaning up the chapel for the services this weekend, others are cleaning the muck out of the reflection pond at the entrance of the property, and still others are preparing the Carroll building (our house).
I hope everyone is having a great week so far. I can’t wait to see everyone in a few weeks for Thanksgiving. God Bless!!
Bye for now…
